THE SAWYER MASON DIFFERENCE

Design Inspired Floors

Sawyer Mason offers curated range of styles and textures that designers, builders, and discerning homeowners look for.

Beauty that endures

Premium Douglas Fir, hand applied reactive stains and a durable finish built for commercial and residential demands.

Sustainable Construction

Responsibly sourced Douglas Fir and sustainable materials offer minimal environmental impact.

About Vail

Vail is a light Douglas Fir floor that shows the grain of fir rather than oak: strong striped grain, flame figure and a few knots across each plank. A natural-looking fir with character, Vail works across design styles. Its light tone keeps a room bright, while the grain gives it movement, from calm, pared-back rooms to warm, wood-filled spaces.

Natural Beauty

Douglas Fir with a smooth surface, strong striped grain, flame figure and a few knots.

Structured. Sustainable.

13/16″ thick with a 6mm Douglas Fir wear layer. Para Wood core blocks laid perpendicular to the top layer's grain: the crossed grains restrain each other, so the plank moves less.

Hand Applied Finishing

Finished with reactive stains, then sealed with a matte Bona Naturale finish.

Vail FAQ

Can I see a sample of Vail?

Yes. Use “Add sample” at the top of this page and Vail goes into your Sample Box. Plank samples are free 10–11″ long hand samples, shipping included, up to 4 per order. The Designer Box holds every color in 4×4 chips, in one box to keep.

How is Vail installed?

Vail can be fully glued down, or glued and nailed. Planks over 6″ wide can’t be nailed without glue. Floating is not recommended for an extra-wide plank like Vail, and Vail can’t be installed over ceramic tile or lightweight concrete (gypcrete) – ask us about your subfloor.

Can Vail go over radiant heat?

Our floors are suitable over radiant heat. Every system is different, so tell us about yours and we’ll confirm before you order.

Can Vail be refinished?

Yes. Its 6mm wear layer can be refinished.
