Limited Warranty

All Sawyer Mason Structured Flooring

(Note: This warranty does not cover finished-to-order or custom-finished products.)

Who is Covered?

All warranties in this Limited Warranty Guide are given only to the original purchaser of our product and installation location. Our warranties are not transferable.

What is Covered and for How Long?

Sawyer Mason is committed to providing the highest quality structured, hardwood flooring and warrants, that under normal, residential, or light commercial condition, and with proper maintenance our structured floor is free from manufacturing defects in milling and lamination for the lifetime of the product.

Pre-Installation Warranty

The owner and installer should carefully inspect the products before installation for any milling, dimensional or visual defects. Since wood is a natural product, there will be natural variations in color, tone and grain that are not covered by this warranty. The pre-installation warranty expires upon installation.

Finish Warranties

Sawyer Mason products are covered under these finish warranties when cleaned and maintained per the guidelines, for the finish type. For flooring and items finished with UV-Oil, maintenance may require re-application of oil by a flooring professional for the duration of this warranty, and the need for such re-application is not warranted as a product failure. Floors finished with UV-oil used in a commercial setting may require frequent re-oiling.

The frequency of the maintenance required to maintain a wood floor finished with UV-oil may vary considerably from one setting to the next depending on the amount and frequency of foot traffic. With UV-oil finished floors, water and other liquids left for prolonged periods without being wiped up may cause spotting to occur. Spotting under these conditions is not considered a product defect.

Sawyer Mason products that are finished with Bona naturale also are covered under these finish warranties. Please refer to our Care & Maintenance page for more on Bona naturale.

  •   Wear through to raw wood in any single area for 3 years from the date of purchase.

*Light Commercial areas are defined as public or commercial spaces with light to moderate traffic and infrequent liquid spills, and do not include food preparation, food service or public dining areas, areas where people form lines such as in front of registers, areas where furniture is regularly moved such as cafeterias, lounges, or high traffic areas such as hallways, building entrances/exits and near elevator doors.

Liability Limitations

These warranties are given only to the original retail purchaser of the flooring. Warranties are non transferable. Sawyer Mason reserves the right to verify and inspect any and all warranty claims. Warranty claims may be inspected and/or investigated by company personnel as well as NWFA Certified Hardwood Flooring Inspectors at our request. Some defect claims may require the removal of samples for analysis.

Responsibility for replacement costs of materials will be determined after cause and evaluation is made. Sawyer Mason will repair and/or replace any material considered defective at our discretion. In the event that the defective flooring is unable to be repaired in a reasonable number of attempts, Sawyer Mason will compensate the original purchaser the purchase price of flooring for the defective portion of the floor.

What Are You and Your Installer Responsible for Under the Sawyer Mason Warranty?

Customer Responsibilities

  • Customers must retain the original sales receipt with proof of purchase date, quantity purchased and address visible.
  • Customer must follow the Sawyer Mason Installation Instructions and the Care & Maintenance Instructions applicable to the product installed (hereafter referred to as “Installation Instructions.”)
  • Customers must follow proper maintenance and floor care procedures, using proper maintenance and cleaning products as prescribed for their floors. Please refer to specific Care & Maintenance for your floors. If there is any doubt in your flooring finish type please contact Sawyer Mason before any cleaning or maintenance is performed.
  • Hardwood flooring is a natural product. Wood expands and contracts according to humidity and moisture conditions. It is very important that engineered wood flooring be thoroughly acclimated to a controlled environment before it is installed and remain within the recommended temperature and humidity range for the lifetime of the floor. Wood flooring performs optimally when the environment is maintained within 60 to 75% degrees Fahrenheit and 30-50% relative humidity. Structured (engineered) floors, in particular, can experience structural failures at relative humidity levels that fall below 30%.

Installer Responsibilities

  • Sawyer Mason Flooring must be installed in strict accordance with the provided, written Installation Instructions. Sawyer Mason is not responsible for damages due to poor installation, transportation, or storage.

Prior to Installation:

  • Verify that the subfloor is flat, dry, clean, and structurally sound per the requirements outlined in the Installation Instructions.
  • Confirm that installation and/or site conditions are acceptable for the installation in accordance with the Installation Instructions. Ensure that humidity and temperature conditions are controlled and maintained throughout the acclimation and installation process.
  • Verify that the flooring product has been properly acclimated to the installation areas conditions prior to installation. Verification of acclimation should be confirmed by moisture content readings, and not time.
  • Verify prior to installation that any flooring being installed is devoid of visual or structural defects that are deemed unsatisfactory to the purchaser. No claim shall be entertained for any installed material which had visual defects prior to installation. When in doubt, do not install.

Failure to comply with or modification of the directions outlined in the Installation instruction will void any warranty claim for Sawyer Mason Products.

Color Disclaimer

Sawyer Mason floors are constructed from real wood. Wood is a natural material derived from a living tree. Thus, every piece of Sawyer Mason flooring will have a unique appearance often expressed as naturally-occurring color variation, texture, and grain patterns. Sawyer Mason floors, specifically, undergo a UV reactive staining process to derive their distinctive color variations. Post-installation, all wood will undergo natural color changes from the effects of oxidation and exposure to ambient ultraviolet light. These changes vary by wood species, length, and intensity of exposure.

In person and online photographic images, or samples provide a representation of the product’s appearance, but are not always comprehensive in terms of the full range of color, texture, and grain variations found in the finished product. Images provided on the Sawyer Mason website, as well as any pamphlets or brochures provided, are for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular style of flooring. Customers should view actual product samples before making a purchase decision.

Radiant Heat

Please refer to the Sawyer Mason Installation Instructions, for approved species and maximum plank widths for Installation over hydronic radiant heat systems detailed in the “Radiant Heat Systems” section of the Installation Instructions. Sawyer Mason floors are NOT warranted over electric radiant heat systems.  The warranty will be void if any of the requirements in the “Radiant Heat Systems” section of the Installation Instructions are not fully met.

NOTE: In wood flooring installations over radiant heat, moderate surface checking, cracking (especially at the ends of boards and around knots), shrinkage, gapping between planks, and slight cupping are all to be expected and do not constitute a product defect

Warranty Exclusions

It is the responsibility of both the homeowner and the installer to inspect the flooring for manufacturing defects and/or visible damage prior to installation. Sawyer Mason accepts no responsibility for liabilities, claims, or fees, including labor costs, in flooring with visible defects once they have been installed. No, installer, distributor, retailer, or employees have the authority to modify the disclaimers, warranties, obligations, restrictions, or exclusions under any circumstances. Sawyer Mason excludes and will not be held responsible for or pay incidental, consequential, or special damages under any warranties. This applies to any loss, expense, or damage other than to the flooring itself that may occur from a defect in the flooring.

Our limited warranties tie only to express warranties for the purchased products. As extent permitted by law and for total non-consumer products, all warranties other than Sawyer Mason limited warranties express or implied, including any warranty merchantability and/or fitness for a particular purpose, are disclaimed. Should any implied warranty arises under state law, any and all implied warranties (including any warranty of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose) are limited in duration to the duration of this written warranty, to the extent allowed by law. Please note that some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion or limitations of incidental or consequential damages or limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the previously referenced limitations or exclusions may not apply. Such respective warranties offer the customer specific legal rights, and the customer may also have other rights that may vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

As the Sawyer Mason collection is constantly being improved and expanded, product availability and specifications are subject to change without notice. Customers are advised to verify all product specifications for their desired flooring  product prior to purchase.
