Our floors
Structured floors are similar to engineered floors. However, we have constructed these floors to a much higher quality than your typical engineered floor. The core is sustainably harvested Para Wood, with characteristics similar to oak: blocks placed by hand, perpendicular to the oak’s grain. The crossed grains restrain each other, so the plank moves less.
Yes! Sawyer Mason can also be used as wall boarding, ceilings, as well as stair treads and more.
Our products are thicker and more solidly built than most engineered floors available on the market. Our floors measure just over ¾″ thick with a 6mm wear layer (the Developer Collection is 9/16″ thick with a 3.2mm wear layer). Our natural coloring is reparable, and our floors come in a wide variety of colors, widths, lengths and textures.
Sawyer Mason prefinished floors are colored, so there is no messy site finishing that needs to happen after the floors are installed. Our oiled floors are UV-cured, so just buff in a coat of maintenance oil and you’re done.
No. Our UV-oiled floors have been installed in many commercial applications, including restaurants, coffee houses, hotels, art galleries, even the Copenhagen airport.
Color & finish
Our reactive color reacts with the tannins and sugars within each plank to create the color. Changing the color would lose this depth of color, but you could always sand and apply a stain.
Yes. Our floors have a thick wear layer that can be refinished.
You often won’t need to sand at all. For our oiled floors, repair scratches with Rubio Monocoat Universal Maintenance Oil. For our Bona-finished floors, Bona polish is available.
Buying & ordering
The best way to buy our floors is to contact us directly. Our sales team will help guide you through the process of choosing your Sawyer Mason flooring and then put you in touch with a local dealer.
We recommend that you order an additional 7% to 10% for waste and cuts. For custom finishes or textures, order an additional 5% to keep on site for future repairs.
Yes. Please review Sawyer Mason’s Limited Warranty for the full details.
Installation
Our floors can be fully glued down, or glued and nailed. Planks over 6″ wide can’t be nailed without glue. Floating is less common, mostly in basements, and not recommended for extra-wide planks – ask us first.
Tools and materials you’ll need:
Yes. All wood flooring needs to be acclimated to its environment before installation. Keep the space between 60–75°F with relative humidity between 35%–55% for a minimum of seven days prior to delivery.
The flooring then needs to reach the room’s ambient temperature (2–5 days), with the boxes kept sealed until installation.
Our floors are suitable over radiant heat. Every system is different, so tell us about yours and we’ll confirm before you order.
Care & cleaning
Oiled floors (Atlantic, Back Bay, Developer, Shoreline and Vineyard Collections): use Rubio Monocoat Natural Soap, or its ready-to-use spray version, Surface Care Spray.
Bona finished floors (Vintage Collection): vacuum the floor using a soft brush attachment and clean your floors regularly with Bona Wood Floor Cleaner.
Avoid ammonia, vinegar, petroleum-based cleaners, wax, polish and abrasive cleaners.
After installation, we recommend applying a coat of Rubio Monocoat (RMC) Universal Maintenance Oil to our oiled floors for an additional layer of protection.
